Last month Tab for a Cause was proud to partner with Room to Read and their #thankstoeducation initiative to run our biggest campaign of all time: the Back to School Charity Challenge. Over 500 middle and high schools around the world competed to see who could open the most tabs for charity, with several rounds reducing the field until only 20 remained in the final sprint to the finish.
The Raffles Girls School of Singapore grew its group to over 700 students and though there was fierce competition, came out on top. As a prize, Tab for a Cause gave enough to establish a library in the Raffles School’s name at a primary school in the Tien Giang region in Vietnam. Construction of the library is complete and just two weeks ago over 900 books were delivered to the school!
Second and Third place went to The San Francisco Friends School and the Chinese International School, respectively, who will be donating enough to provide 250 and 100 books to other schools in need of appropriate reading materials for their students.
There may have been only three prize winners, but thanks to the effort and enthusiasm of all who participated the real winners were our charities. During the month over 35 million Tab for a Cause tabs were opened, which will go on to provide thousands of dollars for all of the charities on our list. The thousands of people that joined to support their schools will now turn every one of their tabs into positive impact for the world.
We hope everyone will continue to engage and support Room to Read’s work. An estimated 800 million people in this world are illiterate, most of them women. The only way we can address the poverty and gender gaps is by educating all the world’s children, and though Room to Read has made incredible progress there is still so much to go.
Thanks to all who made the Back to School Charity Challenge such a success! Stay tuned for more exciting charity events from Gladly!
